The heart behind our vision is that Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost; therefore, at Southside Church, we seek to lead others toward knowing God in a personal relationship. We understand that as followers of Jesus, the focus of our lives turns from us to others; this is what it means to follow Jesus.
Jesus said to Peter, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 4:19: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” It always starts with following Jesus in personal relationship.
Once Jesus called Peter to follow, He then said that he would make Peter fish for men. We believe that we effectively fish for men through the way we lead our personal lives. Our goal is not to be right; our goal is to help someone else be right with God. We do this not through clever arguments, but lives that inspire others.
Jesus speaks to us from the Gospel of Matthew 5:13-14 by describing us as the salt and light of the earth. Salt brings flavour and light changes the atmosphere. We desire that our lives would flavour the world around us and positively change the atmosphere. The word ‘inspire’ comes from the Latin word ‘inspirare’, which means ‘to breathe into.’ Just in the same way that Jesus breathes new life into us; we too want to be a people who live out of God’s inspiration.
