Next Generation
KIDS CHURCH TEAMS
These teams create an environment where kids discover who Jesus is, how much He loves them and how to follow Him every day. They intentionally invest in the lives of our children through worship, groups, games and activities. Serve on a roster; every 2 – 4 weeks.
Toddlers (18 months – 3 years)
This team loves spending time with little ones; reading stories, singing songs and engaging with play time that reinforces the monthly lesson.
Juniors (3 years – Gr.R)
This team has fun sharing God’s love through activities that reinforce the lesson, Bible stories, worship and group time.
Big Kids (Gr1-6)
This team facilitates the children’s growth in God as they build relationships through group time, creative stories/skits, worship and games.
YOUTH TEAM
This team builds intentional connections with teenagers to meet them where they are at and lead them to a God-inspired life that makes a difference.
SCHOOLS TEAM
The schools team is a group of young people that go into the schools during the school day (mornings mainly) to build relationships through break time connections and once off assemblies and events.
Opportunities to join in are shared with the group. We recognise that some people are able to join ad hoc at certain times of the year only (e.g. students with term times different to schools, etc.)
SUNDAY KIDS SECURITY CHECK-IN
This team creates a secure and welcoming environment for families by checking children into Southside Kids, obtaining accurate information, and allowing only those authorised into the kid’s area.

HOSPITALITY TEAM
This team works behind the scenes before, during and after the service to maintain a spirit of excellence and cleanliness.
USHERING TEAM
This team prepares people for a positive worship experience by welcoming and assisting them to a seat, facilitating the offering and breaking of bread and maintaining a distraction-free environment. Great people skills are necessary to assist with creating a welcoming atmosphere for people to “come home to”.
CAR PARK TEAM
This team creates a comfortable environment and incredible impression for guests by offering a safe, easy parking experience with a high-energy welcome and clear directions.
COUNTING TEAM
This team takes part in the secure counting of tithes and offerings at Sunday services.
REFRESHMENTS TEAM
This team creates a comfortable and conversational environment for guests by providing quality refreshments while interacting with each guest that approaches the Refreshments area.
SECURITY TEAM
This team provides an incident-free and safe experience for everyone during our Church services and Events, etc. Team members are either rostered on for Sunday services and / or ad hoc opportunities are shared with the team who then indicate their availability to join and serve for a specific event.
VIRTUAL USHERS TEAM
This team creates a warm and welcoming online environment to all our online viewers across the world which allows our online guests to feel welcomed and to experience God.
CATERING TEAM
This team organizes catering for Sundays and for ad hoc events. They bake/cook and organise the food and drinks which are ordered from a supplier.
BREAKING OF BREAD TEAM
This team creates a hospitable environment by preparing, presenting and serving emblems with excellence.
WELCOME TEAM
This team creates a welcoming environment that removes barriers and allows guests to experience God. Make a great first impression – welcoming shows that our visitors matter.
BAPTISM TEAM
This team creates a hospitable environment by preparing, presenting and serving emblems with excellence.
CHILD BLESSING TEAM
This team creates a comfortable environment for parents and their families to make it a memorable experience for everyone.
NEW CHRISTIANS TEAM
This team seeks to lead others toward knowing God in a personal relationship.
NEXT STEPS BOOTH TEAM
This team is relationship-focused and welcome guests by offering them assistance they may need and inviting them to get connected by leaving their information for follow-up.
SET UP AND PACK DOWN TEAM
This team creates an inviting and welcoming environment for guests to enjoy a relaxing and memorable experience with all our events on and off stage.
FIRST AID TEAM
This team with First Aid certificates serves to give basic medical attention to our guests and partners in the event of an accident or emergency.
Opportunities include being on standby for ad hoc events, camps and Friday night activities. Regular Sunday opportunity is to be on standby every 2nd week at the service you attend; seated in a designated “First Aider” seat. Requires certification.
SERVE TEAM HOSTS
This team hosts those serving on Sundays by preparing tea, coffee and serving snacks for the teams before and in between the services.
WELCOME LOUNGE HOSTS
This team creates a warm environment for our guests in the welcome lounge by serving tea and coffee as a support to the ministry team, greeting the guests at the welcome lounge.
Production
WORSHIP TEAM
This dynamic team prepares the way for our guests to encounter the presence of God through vocals and instruments.
The team commits to a Wednesday evening weekly meeting to practice together and serves on Sundays according to a roster. The team also serves at some additional opportunities at events and conferences. For those new to the team, there is an audition and period of preparation before joining the team on stage.
TECHNICAL ARTS TEAM
This team supports the delivery of the word and worship, using creativity and technology through cameras, lighting, media, sound engineering and other visual elements.
The team commits to a Wednesday evening meeting to practice together and serves on Sundays according to a roster. The team also serves at some additional opportunities at events and conferences. For those new to the team, there is a period of preparation before joining the team.
SERMON ILLUSTRATION TEAM
This team receives the concept for the sermon illustration, and then works to prepare appropriate material in a creative and effective way.
Serves in the week to prepare illustration every few weeks.
STAGE ASSIST
This team assists anyone carrying a stage role during the service (pastors, anchor, worship leader) in practical ways so that we can do things with excellence while on the stage. Serve on a roster; every 2 – 4 weeks.
Creative
PHOTOGRAPHY
This team is skilled in photography and uses it to show what God is doing at the church. They photograph various events and services for use on the website, for printed material, and for social media.
Opportunities are shared and the team is scheduled to serve. Opportunities include Sunday Services, Next Generation, various events and conferences and other ad hoc opportunities.
VIDEOGRAPHY
This team is skilled in videography and uses it to show what God is doing at the church. They capture footage of various events and services for use in the services, on the website and for social media.
Opportunities are shared and the team is scheduled to serve. Opportunities include Sunday Services, Next Generation, various events and conferences and other ad hoc opportunities.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
This team loves graphic design and is skilled at it. Slides, images, flyers, banners, etc. are designed for use in services, on the website, for printed material and for social media.

SOCIAL MEDIA
This team works throughout the week to design content, create the copy and publish content on our social media platforms to inspire and reach our community.
FACILITIES TEAM
This team works behind the scenes in practical ways to maintain a spirit of excellence in our building and grounds. Serving opportunities include ongoing maintenance and gardening, as well as involvement on an ad hoc basis with new facilities projects.
Ad hoc opportunities are shared with the team who then indicate their availability to join in and serve for a specific project.
DÉCOR
This team prepares décor in our venues for specific events or seasons, with a modern and relevant approach. Opportunities include Easter, Christmas, Women’s Events and Holiday Club.
Ad hoc opportunities are shared with the team who then indicate their availability to join in and serve. A passion for décor is the most important. Gifts and talents in creating is a bonus.
EVENT PLANNING
This team handles the planning and implementation of details for our events, liaising with other teams such as the decor team. These include special aspects to Sunday services, functions or ad hoc events/meetings that do not fall under the other serve areas.
Pastoral
COUNSELLORS
This team of trained volunteer counsellors walks a journey with individuals through active listening and ongoing support, believing that the emotional pain of the past can be eased and healed.
Individuals wanting to counsel go on a 2-3 year journey of formal training through Philippi Trust which includes training over weekends, assignments and practical hours with high supervision. This qualification is recognised by FAMSA.
SENIORS TEAM
This team provides care and connection for seniors in our church and community so that they too can know God, find freedom and make a difference.
Serve on an ad hoc basis.
LIFE GROUP LEADER / HOST
This team host and facilitates groups, using a sermon based curriculum, offering a place for people to find freedom through meaningful relationships and community
This team is for those who:
- a) can facilitate and host groups
- b) have the facilities and desire to host groups, but are not yet confident to facilitate
- c) those who would like to facilitate, but do not have suitable homes.
Groups meet weekly during the school term. Group Leaders also have a quartely forum/one-on-one meetings.
GROWTH TRACK TEAM
This team hosts the Growth Track through connection, providing materials and assistance throughout the three steps of the Growth Track.
The team serves on a Tuesday evening Growth Track. Opportunities include Group Facilitation, hospitality, technical arts and Child Care
PASTORAL CARE
This team is an umbrella for many pastoral activities that provide care for people. Serve opportunities include the Sunday prayer team, joining in preparing for prayer meetings, administration and care for funerals and weddings, home and hospital visitations, etc.
Administration
This team utilises their gifts of administration and organization to serve the church in administrative areas like data entry, collating, sorting and more.
For example: collate training or Growth Track material, assist with database entries and updates. Flexible in how often to serve and for the number of hours offered: weekly, every second week or monthly. May serve ad hoc hours convenient to the person serving either during day/evening (usually at church office) or join others to serve together on the same project.
Southside Legacy Foundation
This team is passionate about being the hands and feet of Jesus, by addressing current social justice issues with practical acts of faith and giving.
